Die Zauberflöte
Mid autumn is also the month whereby things go bump in the night. Some of the local chinese are observing this annual tradition whereby they believe the gates of hell open for 1 month and the inhabitants are loosed on earth for a while.
Scary isn't it!
But something else made me jump with fright today. The car battery died, and when the technician told me that the cost of the battery was a cool $115, I nearly fainted from the 3 figure sum. The feeling was definitely worse than seeing an apparition from the netherworld
OK, but the weekend was fantastic!!! We got to see Mozart on HD (High Definition) cinema! This means that the cinema's output is digital or whatever that may mean. But Mozart on reel? Yes, the New York Metropolitan Opera has recently (Dec 2006) released a recording of a live performance of Mozart's last opera, The Magic Flute (Die Zauberflöte). I'm won't go into the details and synopsis of the 100 minutes show, but I must say that I thoroughly enjoyed the sitting very much!
Was especially enthralled by the arias of the Queen of the Night (Königin der Nacht). Played by Erika Miklósa, the queen was aptly portrayed as a scheming queen, in fact I thought she looked like a vampire with the layers of white makeup!
If only we could 'flute' away all those things we do not like.

Mozart on HD? My son would have loved that. Glad you enjoyed it.
You should have hopped over to Malaysia and buy one. I just bought a battery for RM 180.
