A friend commented that he saw the lightning streaking across the skies last night and till the early morning hours of the day. There was however no sound of thunder which could mean that the thunderstorm was quite a distance away. Perhaps out at sea, or perhaps in the layers of the thick storm clouds.

Singapore has the highest incidence of lightning strikes in the world. Lightning don’t just flash across the skies, but they streak with bolts of pure blinding energy right down to targets on the ground! This is then immediately accompanied by a loud deafening boom of thunder. When I was living in a house, this direct ground hit often means that the mains circuit breaker will also trip because of the impact of a huge current through. It can be quite a scary experience during a thunder/lightning storm. The wind howls and the rain comes down in blinding sheets. I see the trees bent and I worry about the trees being uprooted or branches breaking off under the weight of the elementals. And then, you feel the hair on your back standing up. Before you know it, a blinding flash and boom! Lightning has struck a spot near you.

I am awed by the forces of nature. Even more so when the Lord in the days of His wrath; with lightning and thunder of never seen before proportions would rain down from the heavens and rend the earth in a wild maniacal lashing. “And the angel took the censer, and filled it with fire of the altar, and cast it into the earth: and there were voices, and thunderings, and lightnings, and an earthquake.” Revelation 8:5
